CAN SPAM ACT

The spam act protects people from getting unlawful emails from different companies.  The can spam act covers not only to bulk email but also commercial emails. There are many rules to what you can send over an electronic message and if you do not abide by these rules you could potentially be fined over 40,000 dollars.

One rule is that you can not use false header information. This means that your “from” “to” “reply-to” all have to be accurate information.

Another rule according to the can spam act is that you have to give a clear explanation of how the recipient can choose to not get your emails.  This gives the recipient a way to opt out of your emails when they do not want them.

One last rule is that you need to monitor what others may be doing on your behalf.  This means that just because you may have hired another source to handle the email aspect of your company you are still responsible for their actions.
